It's almost difficult to imagine that two old age ago, LibreOffice was a newcomer to the world of office productivity software, having just just been forked from the longstanding OpenOffice.org suite that so many people had come to know and love.

Now, fast forward to today, and two-yr-old LibreOffice is the office software system that's included in most Linux distributions, having in essence replaced its OpenOffice parent as the leading free and open Microsoft Office alternative.

A vibrant community of developers and volunteers now keeps LibreOffice connected the cutting edge, and connected Friday the project officially announced its back birthday.
